Booking An Appointment At Kevin Joseph Uxbridge Hair Salon?  All Your Questions Answered

We know that booking a hair appointment can sometimes feel a bit daunting, or even confusing, but at Kevin Joseph Hairdressing in Uxbridge, we want to make your experience as smooth and easy as possible. 

You may be wondering what to ask for, or what all the different terms on the service list mean.  In this article we aim to answer all your questions and queries so that when you visit our Uxbridge salon you’ll feel relaxed and at ease, knowing exactly what to expect.

How Can I Explain To My Stylist What I Want Them To Do?

All our appointments at Kevin Joseph Hairdressing begin with a thorough consultation.  This allows you and your stylist to discuss your ideas and agree exactly how it is you want your hair done. Our experienced stylists all have the expertise, skills and knowledge to ask you the right questions and to really listen to your requirements, ensuring the style they create is tailored perfectly to you. We will assess your hair type, skin tone, lifestyle (i.e. how much time you have each day to look after & style your hair), personal style, budget and more, to create a bespoke hairstyle that will work for you.

If you’ve found a photo of the hairstyle that you’d like us to recreate, make sure to bring it to your appointment.  Whether it’s a favourite celebrity hairstyle, a magazine picture, a selfie of a style you liked…we’ll do our best to make it work for you.

What Does “Finish” Mean On Your Service List?

Finishing your hair is what we do at the end of your appointment, after we’ve done the cut and colour.  It refers to the blow-dry and style we’ll carry out to make sure your new haircut exactly as you’d like it – with the perfect finish!   We may use straighteners or tongs to style your new look, as well as the best products to add shine and to keep your new hairstyle looking fabulous for as long as possible after you’ve left our Uxbridge salon. The phrase ‘finishing’ can sound rather old fashioned, but it appears on many hair salon service lists, so it’s worth knowing what it means!

Can I Just Book In For A Trim?

Yes, it’s fine to just have a light trim to your hair – in fact it’s something we recommend doing often!  To maintain your locks and keep them looking & feeling healthy, it’s important to book in for regular appointments.  Although we don’t offer a Trim on our service list, when you book a Cut & Finish at our Uxbridge salon, we’re very happy to just trim off any split ends or to make sure your fringe isn’t hanging in your eyes.  If you get into the habit of coming in for regular trims, you’ll find these small adjustments can often make a big difference to how good your hair looks and feels.  You don’t need to wait until you need a lot chopped off to book an appointment!

Why Do I Need An Allergy Patch Test?

At Kevin Joseph Hair Salon in Uxbridge, we pride ourselves on being a colour safe salon.   We are dedicated to providing the best possible service, which means that your health and safety is always our top priority.  Although allergic reactions to hair dye are rare, they can still happen, which is why it’s important that you follow our guidelines on patch testing ahead of your colour appointment. We use only professional quality hair products from Wella, but to ensure your safety, if you haven’t had your hair dyed by us in the past 3 months, we will require you to have a quick allergy patch test at least 48 hours before your colour service. 

It’s a very simple procedure  – you’ll just need to pop into the salon briefly to have a small amount of hair colour product dabbed behind your ear to test for any reactions.  When you book, we will always let you know if you need a patch test with us.

Why Do Your Prices Vary Between Different Hair Stylists?

All our stylists are fully trained and highly skilled, but, as you’d expect, some have greater experience in hairdressing than others.  This means that a service with a stylist who’s been a hairdresser for 10 years or more, will be more expensive than a service with one of our newly qualified stylists.  At Kevin Joseph Hairdressing you can be sure that all our stylists will offer you a great service, so what’s most important is that you find someone you feel comfortable and at ease with.  If you are new to our salon, we recommend booking in for a consultation ahead of your appointment with one of our team.  That way you can get to know them and decide who’s the right person to work with.

Should I Book To Get My Hair Cut Or Hair Colour Done First?

For the best results, we recommend you book your hair cut & colour service for the same day so that we can make sure they both work together to look fabulous.

To discuss your new look in more detail, as a first step we’d recommend you book in for a consultation ahead of your hair appointment with one of our team.  This allows us to assess your hair and discuss the hair colouring process with you.  We can give you a quick patch test there and then, so you’ll be ready for your colour service appointment. 

Please note:  We charge a £30 fee for hair colour consultations.  Your fee will be redeemable against your bill on the day your service is carried out.

Should I Choose Traditional Foil Highlights or Balayage?

The names for hair colouring techniques have developed from just highlights to ombre, balayage, babylights & more!   We know it can sometimes be difficult to keep up with the ever changing technical terms in hairdressing, but we’re here’s a quick summary of exactly what two of our most popular services mean…..

Traditional highlights are applied using foil to the sections of the hair in a regular pattern across the head, where hair colour product is needed.  Using the foil keeps in the heat while the product saturates the hair and this helps the highlights to develop to the right level of brightness for the perfect colour result.  The structured pattern in which foil highlights are applied can offer a more obvious contrast between the lightened strands and natural colour than ‘balayage’ would.  If you’re looking to add some depth and dimension throughout all of your hair, then highlights could be the right colouring technique for you.

Balayage is a more bespoke hair colouring technique that involves highlights being hand-painted onto sections of your hair. This produces a more natural, sun-kissed look as your skilled Lloyds colourists will apply the lighter colour to the areas of your hair that would naturally lighten if you had been on holiday in the sun. The colour is applied in small, thin strokes at the top of the hair & gradually gets thicker as it moves down your hair for a beautifully blended look.  At Kevin Joseph we think we offer the best balayage in Uxbridge!

How Are You Making Sure The Salon Is Covid Secure?

Our team work tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure that our Uxbridge salon is a safe, relaxing and still beautiful place for you to visit.  You can rest assured that all of our staff are trained in the necessary social distancing and hygiene measures, in accordance with government guidelines, and have attained Barbicide Covid-19 certification.   We have installed bespoke screens to ensure social distancing and have invested in all the necessary PPE, including biodegradable single use products from Scrummi.
